Masterpieces in the Making

Their adventure had started out so wonderfully. It was early in the day, their tummies were full, and they had places to go! So off they went, traipsing along the tracks with suitcases in hand. Sometimes big brother would play the gentleman and give sister a break carrying her yellow and red pooh bear case for her. Other times, when the older two lagged behind, little brother would shoot ahead leaving laughter in the wind, daring them to catch him. And so it went, that they walked on and on and on, with spirits high and a dream ahead. But slowly, their good cheer waned as the sun began to yawn. Their destination was nowhere to be seen, and their little legs were all a'tremble. Finally, the littlest man gave a cry and slumped down his case. No more. He couldn't take another step. So, his brother and sister followed suit, crouching down with heads held low. Maybe it really was too far. Maybe their imaginations had really carried them too far this time. But, wait! Maybe there was another way! For wasn't a train due to come, with a cool little car full of tables and chairs and cushions galore - a speedy little thing that would whisk them away, towards that setting sun?

Big brother grinned, for he knew it was true! He'd seen his time table and remembered - that silly ol' train would come rather soon! And so it was, the three siblings waited. And waited. And waited. Just a bit, even though it felt like forever. Until the sinking sun painted the sky with evening shades. And a chug chug chug rattled the old metal tracks, heralding hello! with a high pitched blast. The children jumped to their feet, grins a'lighting their faces. They climbed to the platform and leapt through the door when the train screeched to a halt and and Mr. Conductor invited them in.  For their journey was not at its end. No sir! It had really only just begun!
